$25 per half hour

$5 discount for family of 3 or more students

Missy began teaching private piano during her sophomore year of college for Winthrop University's piano academy. She has since enjoyed teaching students of all ages and levels and currently has a studio of over 30 students.

During lessons, Missy emphasizes knowledge of notes, rhythm, technique, and expression. Beginners and intermediate students are placed in books according to their individual levels. Scales, chords, and basic improvisation are also stressed. For advanced students, Missy focuses on expression and maturity in performance. She also encourages different arenas of performance that wil make students more well-rounded. These arenas include: accompaniment, improvisation, chord knowledge, and advanced theory.

Recitals are given once a year, and Missy also encourages students to perform at any event available such as church solos, school talent shows, solo contests, and other special events in the community.

Mrs. Wood is a wonderful piano teacher, whose expertise with the piano contribute greatly to the education of her students. I feel as though Mrs. Wood made me better understand the world of music and why things are played or done the way they are. I have been Mrs. Wood's student for two years and have been told that I am more experienced than pianists that have been playing for many years. Mrs. Wood definitely knows what she's doing and is a wonderful teacher who I highly recommend.
